US drops Tornado Cash sanctions, frontend remains compromised

The US Office of Foreign Assets Control ended sanctions against the crypto mixer Tornado Cash and claims to remain concerned about the DPRK.

OFAC has been ordered to remove addresses linked to Tornado Cash from its list of Specially Designated National and Blocked Persons.

A judge has ruled on the compliance requirements for a crypto money transmitter — even if they do not control their users’ funds.

The question of whether Tornado Cash or Samourai ever controlled their users’ funds while transmitting them is a critical legal issue.

The three cited examples are even more embarrassing for another reason: A separate, pre-existing sanction might have prevented them.
