Discord channels of five crypto firms hacked in a week

The Witness Chain Discord channel was reportedly hacked today, making it the fifth crypto company this month to see its Discord taken over by hackers.

Witness Chain is a blockchain-based DePIN validation project. Hackers appear to have used its Discord to share malicious links, with core contributor Pankaj Agarwal warning members, “please do not click on any links posted there!”

Agarwal then posted just over an hour later that the Discord server had been recovered from the hackers and fixed. The original warning was also spammed with repetitive messages that link to an apparent recovery scam.

The Discord channels of blockchain platform Polygon, blockchain Avalanche, roll-up firm Zksync, and Orderly Network were also hacked on August 24, 25, and 29 respectively.

Polygon’s Discord hack reportedly saw attackers share malicious links. Once users fell victim, the hackers posed as security agents to scam them further. One user claims to have lost $150,000 worth of ethereum through the links.
